10 Best Sports Bras for Walking.

03/06/2020

Following my last article ‘Sports Bras for Walking’ got a lot of feedback asking what my favourite walking sports bras were. So, I have taken the time to put together my ‘best of’ list; my ’10 Best Sports Bras for Walking’.

Even though walking is considered a low to medium impact activity it is still important to get a sports bra with the right support and comfort. To allow you to walk pain free and to alleviate back and breast pain (especially if you have a bit more up top). For me comfort and support are by far the most important elements of a walking sports bra.

Everyone has their own personal preferences; racerback, wirefree but at the end of the day your walking sports bra needs to be comfortable and to support you. Simple. I for one have experienced the breast pain caused by a poor supporting bra and the rub from an ill-fitting one! If this is you it’s worth checking out ‘10 Common Fitting Problems & How to Solve Them’.

What Are My 10 Best?

So, what are my criteria? You guessed it, support, and comfort! I will leave further personal preferences up to you. My list is my ’10 best’ not my ‘top 10’. The list is not a countdown but simply an alphabetical order ’10 best’ list. I do have my personal favourites but they may not suit you, so I felt a ’10 Best’ list was more appropriate.

There were no financial incentives offered by suppliers to get their bra on the list. Unfortunately, this happens a lot to ‘best product’ lists meaning they are often biased and do not offer you the absolute best of advice. These are just my picks from a life lived in the world of sports bras.

Read on to check out my 10 best.

#1 Abi and Joseph Leo Hi-Tech Sports Bra

First up is the Leo Hi-Tech Sports Bra by Abi and Joseph. This number certainly ticks the support and comfort boxes. I particularly like the extra support the racerback style offers, but without putting extra strain on your shoulders. The wide shoulder straps do the trick to successfully spread the load! It’s comfort plus, so soft.

The Leo H-Tech is an Abi and Joseph staple, which says a lot about the success of its design. In the fast fashion world of sports crops to stand the test of time you must be da bomb. And this bra certainly is that. A walking thumbs up from me.

Main Features and Benefits:

  • Made from abi and joseph premium high-performance fabrics which are moisture-wicking, breathable, shrink and fade resistant and quick drying with four-way stretch for ultimate performance.
  • Featuring ‘abi Signature’ performance fabric which has a lightly brushed, soft cotton-like feel for next-to-skin comfort.
  • Wide shoulder straps crossing over a dual layer Powermesh racerback to offer superior comfort, support, and breathability.
  • Removable cups so you can customise your fit.

Suits 8 – 18 backs and A-D cups.

The Zipper Bra by Amoena is the only zip front bra on my list. It’s actually designed as a mastectomy bra and that design allows it to offer great comfort and overall support. It’s quit a ‘big’ bra but herein lies the support. The large racerback spreads the load from your shoulders through your back relieving potential pressure points.

It is beautifully soft and comfortable. I particularly like how the wide under band reduces any potential chafing. Wear it stand alone or under a top for all day walking comfort.

Main Features and Benefits:

  • Hidden hook and eye under the front closure zipper makes fastening even easier.
  • The zipper clicks and locks to ensure the bra stays fastened.
  • Soft microfibre fabric is smooth under clothing and against your skin.
  • This bra offers both compression and encapsulation support. Combined with a racerback this gives you extra support and a greater range of motion.
  • The Zipper Bra features bilateral pockets to hold a breast form of shaper if you need one.

Suits 10 – 16 backs and A-D cups.

#3 Berlei Full Support Sports Bra

Next on the list is one for larger ladies or those with a bit more up top. The Full Support Sports Bra by Berlei is designed specifically to provide a secure feeling of support for the fuller busted and fuller figured body type. And this it certainly does.

It’s rated as ‘medium impact’ so is perfect for walking. It offers a natural look, making it a great everyday option as well.

Main Features and Benefits:

  • Berlei states it has a Support Factor of 2 – Medium Impact; reducing breast bounce by up to 45-50%.
  • Breathable fabric with ventilation zones keeps you cool and comfortable whilst walking.
  • Reinforced cup side panels support and enhance the shape of your bust.
  • Comfortable shaped and padded straps convert to crossback providing you additional support.
  • The Full Support Sports Bra is a full cup sports bra that gives you ample coverage.

Suits 12 – 20 backs and DD-H cups.

#4 Champion The Show-Off Sports Bra

I really do like the Show-Off sports bra for walking. Champion certainly have nailed it with this one. A great combination of support, comfort, and style. It is easy to see why it is one of their most popular styles.

When it comes to walking bras this one certainly checks all the boxes. I particularly like the attention to detail in the design of this bra. A lot of design effort has been put into creating a cool and dry bra and after a long walk that extra design effort is certainly appreciated.

Main Features and Benefits:

  • Tag-free T-back has a cooling keyhole plus adjustable hook-and-eye closure for easy on/off.
  • The racerback styling gives you a greater freedom of movement.
  • Moisture-wicking Champion Vapor technology lifts sweat away from your skin for cooler, drier comfort.
  • Performance mesh (front and back) adds cooling ventilation.
  • Soft, cushioned inner seam gently contours your curves.
  • Smooth, moulded cups with concealing petals ensure your modesty and provide maximum support.
  • Wide, smooth bottom band adds extra support and comfort as it fits snugly against your skin.
  • The Show-Off Sports Bra features silky straps that adjust in front for convenience.

Suits 10 – 16 backs and A-D cups.

#5 Freya Sonic Underwired Spacer Bra

OK, next on my list is the Sonic from Freya. In my opinion they are the queens of underwired sports bras and this bra is a princess (see what I did there!). Being a medium to high impact bra it is not as supportive as other offerings from Freya, but it is certainly enough to support you throughout a brisk walk.

It is made from non-bulky ‘spacer’ fabric (not sure what that is but it sounds good!). The smooth moulded cups give a nice breast shape and great under shirt look. It is soft and comfortable. All in all, a great underwired walking sports bra perfect for larger women.

Main Features and Benefits:

  • Multi-part moulded cups made from breathable non-bulky spacer fabric.
  • High performance with average breast coverage. Gives you a smooth silhouette.
  • COOLMAX® fabric in inner bra and microfibre wicks away moisture helping keep you cool and dry.
  • Mesh panels for cool comfort.
  • Wide built up padded non-stretch straps for comfort and support.
  • Soft hook and eye closure for extra comfort.
  • Wide curvature underwire supports your breasts without compromising comfort and mobility.
  • Double lined for firm support.
  • Firm flat bottom band ensures good anchorage and stability.
  • Encapsulates the bust providing you with great shape and support.
  • The Sonic Underwired Spacer Bra can be worn with the back converted to racerback style for added support and to prevent strap slippage.

Suits 8 – 18 backs and D – GG cups.

#6 Goddess Sport Soft Cup Sports Bra

Number six on my list is another sports bra for the larger lady. It covers from an 18 up to a 26 back and a C-G cup so wins the sizing game hands down. It is specifically designed with the needs of larger ladies in mind.

As a medium impact bra, it offers good support for walking. Its big advantage is comfort. Its wide band and full coverage help keep everything in place all day long. A perfect all round bra to keep you supported when on your feet.

Main Features and Benefits:

  • The cup lining has antibacterial protection for odour control.
  • A tall centre front provides coverage and helps reduce breast motion.
  • The wireless multi-part cups are lined with breathable knit fabric and have angled seams for shape and control.
  • Wicks moisture away to keep you feeling cool and dry.
  • The front of centre pull straps is padded and non-stretch whilst the back has restricted stretch, exposed elastic straps with adjustable coated metal hardware.
  • Tall smoothing sides are two-ply stretch knit with covered elastic edges for secure fit.
  • The back is supportive and has kicked-in straps that are less likely to slip.
  • The Soft Cup Sports Bra also has a supportive, covered elastic underband for added support.

Suits 18 – 26 backs and C – G cups.

#7 Lorna Jane Comfort Sports Bra

Lorna Jane make a great range of walking sports bras. Most of her bras offer the support and comfort for walking. So why the Comfort you ask? Easy, the name says it all!

It’s pretty hard to go past a bra that has been specifically designed with comfort in mind. LJ rates it as ‘high impact’, I would debate this, but it does have more than enough support for walking. If only it was made to accommodate more cup sizes.

Main Features and Benefits:

  • Designed with Lorna Jane’s superior performance LJ Excel™ fabric.
  • Fitted design with a scoop neckline.
  • Shrink and fade resistant.
  • Made from quick drying materials.
  • Moisture wicking and breathable qualities allow your body to breathe during your workout.
  • Thick under-bust band and straps provide maximum support for high intensity workouts.
  • The Comfort Sports Bra has a racerback design with brand logo at the back.

Suits 8 – 14 backs and A – D cups.

#8 Royce Impact Free Sports Bras

How can I have two bras at number 8 you ask? Simple, they are essentially the same design with slight adjustments to suit different cup size. Add the two together and they accommodate D-K cups. Impressive!

Now this bra wins the comfort battle. It’s so soft and being made from 100% cotton keeps you cool and fresh. Like Lorna Jane and her Comfort Bra Royce list it as High Impact but I would say that is at a stretch (no pun intended). That said it is perfectly adequate for walking.

Main Features and Benefits:

  • The wireless cups are lined for modesty and are padding free.
  • Soft touch hook & eye closure with 4 eye adjustment giving you greater flexibility of fit.
  • 100% cotton, with excellent wicking properties to help keep you cool and fresh.
  • The underband elastic is fully encased with soft cotton fabric for a comfortable fit against the skin.
  • Double layer fabric allows perspiration to be carried away from skin.
  • The straps are foam lined for added comfort.
  • Structured cups provide firm support to reduce all movement whilst a high neckline (slightly lower than the original Impact Free) ensures full coverage of the bust to reduce vertical bounce.
  • The fit is both compressive and encapsulating limiting breast movement giving you total support.
  • Wide elastic underband provides great support.

Suits 10 – 18 backs and D-K cups.

#9 Triumph Triaction Seamfree Crop Top

Next up is the Seamfree Crop by Triumph. The ultimate sports bra staple. If there was one all round sports crop to have in your wardrobe, then this is it.

#10 Triumph Triaction Wellness Wirefree Bra

Rounding out my ’10 Best’ is the Wellness Bra also by Triumph. This is a relatively new bra from Triumph and is the ideal walking companion (including my dog you ask?).

This super soft wirefree bra with natural contouring offers high support and the highest wearing comfort. You will love it!

So, there you have it. My ‘10 Best’ done and dusted. As always, the perfect sports bra for you is very much a personal choice. What works for your walking buddy may not work for you. Use this list as a guide and hit the pavement with the ultimate in support and comfort.

Happy walking
