Share the Dignity

Ensuring everyone if afforded the dignity so many of us take for granted.

Share the Dignity is an Australian Charity bringing dignity to homeless, at-risk and those experiencing domestic violence through the distribution of sanitary items and funding of funerals.

Beginnings

Founder & Managing Director Rochelle Courtney established Share the Dignity in after she learned of homeless women going without basic sanitary items during their menstrual cycle.  Rochelle first decided to take matters into her own hands collecting sanitary items within her local community and distributing to local shelters.  This simple idea of giving dignity to homeless women has subsequently grown into a national charity with over 3000 volunteers Australia wide.  The ‘Pad Lady’ as Rochelle has become known has to date collected over 1.1 million packets of pads and tampons across Australia.  Share the Dignity continues to grow as a charity and now provides multiple initiatives at giving dignity to women.

Activities

Dignity Drive

Twice a year Share the Dignity collect sanitary items that are then donated to their registered charities. Their charity partners then supply homeless, at-risk women experiencing domestic violence with dignity at a time they need it most. Dignity Drives happen in April and August. This is arguably their most life changing campaign and the one they need the most help with.

It’s in the Bag

Each November Share the Dignity collect handbags filled with personal care products. They then distribute these as Christmas gifts through their partner shelters and charitable organisations. Their partner charities then give them to the homeless, at-risk and women experiencing domestic violence. Due to the high demand at Christmas this is the perfect time to help.

Activities for All

Share the Dignity believe all kids need sports. They provide free kids activities to children in crisis. They partner with sporting, arts and STEM clubs to provide free access for these kids. These organisations provide these children with at least six months of lessons but most of all, a safe and friendly community.

Because we Care

Share the Dignity believes that women deserve a life time of dignity and safety. The ‘Because We Care’ initiative covers funeral costs for women killed by violent family members. Their generous cash donors and businesses provide the much needed funds.

Dignity Vending Machines

Share the Dignity place free tampon and pad vending machines in public toilets and schools where they are needed most. They believe that no woman should ever have to choose between eating and buying sanitary products. No girl should have to miss a day of school because she can’t afford tampons and pads. They fund dignity vending machines through cash donations and corporate sponsorship.

Share the Dignity believe all women matter and all women deserve dignity and justice.
