Things to Consider When Buying a Teenage Sports Bra
There are a few essentials you must consider when buying a new sports bra for your teenage daughter. Support, comfort and fit are the big three.
Get these right and you are well on your way to having your daughter head off to school feeling confident in her sports bra.
Read on as I delve a bit deeper.
It Must be Supportive
This is a given. The whole point here is to give developing breasts the support they deserve. Too often I hear stories of girls going to school in an everyday bra only to take on PE class without changing into something more supportive. No wonder so many girls want to sit on the side-lines. Ouch!
A high support sports bra should minimise breast movement. Allowing your daughter to participate in sports without any breast bounce pain.
Look for sports bras that are rated ‘High Impact’. These offer the highest bounce control. This can not only help reduce breast pain but also self-consciousness. Allowing your daughter to focus on the activity at hand.
It Must be Comfortable
Another given. We all know what teenage girls can be like. Hey, we were all one once. And one thing I remember from my teenage years is if I didn’t feel comfortable in an item of clothing there was no way I would wear it. And we don’t want an $80 sports bra just sat in the wardrobe.
So, what should we be looking for? For a start, a wirefree style. I always recommend wirefree sports bras for teenage girls. Why? Remember the sensitive breasts thing. Developing breasts do not need the threat of uncomfortable underwire. So, eliminate it. Go wirefree!
Most modern sports bras are made from soft technical fabrics that feel great against the skin. That said, we are all different, so nothing beats a good old-fashioned try on. This is the best way to ensure sports bra comfort for your daughter.
It Must Fit Well
The third given. All the support in the world is worth nothing if your daughter’s sports bra doesn’t fit well. Finding the perfect fit is the final piece in the puzzle and one not that difficult to solve.
Any sports bra website worth its salt will have an online fitting room with a bra size calculator to help you determine your daughter’s size. It is much easier and will give a more accurate result when you help her.
Once you have found her size it is time to go shopping. Unfortunately, not all sports bras are created equal so look for the ‘Fittings Comments’ associated with each sports bra to discover any individual bra fit nuances.
As always nothing beats a try on. Try the sports bra on the work though my three ‘Fitting Essentials’ blogs to ensure you have the perfect fit.
